CHRIS COONS FOR DELAWARE
On August 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders led the peaceful, historic marches on Washington DC, to demand equal justice and freedom for all Americans. Almost 60 years later, we are still marching and demanding an end to racism and injustice, including right here in Delaware. This weekend, peaceful protesters gathered throughout our state to demand justice and real structural changes to our laws and our culture, so that all Americans can live freely, equally and safely. I was proud to join an inspiring march in Middletown today, with community leaders, religious leaders, and so many more. I have spent the last several weeks listening to the voices of Delawareans about what changes we need. And, I am committed to passing meaningful legislation in Washington, to make those changes a reality. I often think of something powerful Dr. King said, during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement: "True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice." I pray that all of us will take those words to heart and do our part to bring more justice to our country and our world. #Justice
