Tom Cotton helped pave the road to this war.
In 2015, while the Iran nuclear agreement was still being negotiated, Cotton led the infamous letter from 47 Republican senators to Iran’s leaders, trying to undercut American diplomacy before the deal was even finished.
Then, in 2017, he pushed President Trump to decertify the agreement. In 2018, Trump pulled the United States out.
And what was the theory? That if we tore up the inspection-and-limits framework, Iran would somehow become less aggressive, less suspicious, and less interested in nuclear leverage?
That was never a serious strategy. That was blind hawkish fantasy.
Now, years later, after the old framework unraveled, Iran’s program advanced, trust collapsed, inspectors lost access, and negotiations became harder than they had to be, Washington’s answer is bombs.
Again.
They told us last year’s bombing “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear threat. Now they’re telling us we need more bombing. That alone proves the point: air power can destroy buildings, but it cannot destroy knowledge, national will, or a country of more than 90 million people.
Iran will still be there when the smoke clears. Its scientists will still be there. Its nuclear material will still be a problem. And now Iran has discovered a new point of leverage: the Strait of Hormuz.
So who pays for this? Arkansas pays.
Farmers pay through higher fertilizer costs. Truckers and working families pay through higher diesel and gas prices. Small businesses pay through supply-chain chaos. Taxpayers pay through more debt. And our troops carry the risk when politicians turn foreign policy into macho theater.
America should be strong. But strength is not the same thing as starting fights we cannot finish.
Since World War II, America has done best when we had a clear, limited mission, like Desert Storm, pushing an invader back across a border. We do not do well trying to bomb, invade, remake, or intimidate entire societies into submission. Korea. Vietnam. Iraq. Afghanistan. The pattern is not subtle.
Tom Cotton knows this history. He served. He understands what air power can and cannot do. And yet he keeps choosing escalation.
Why?
Because Washington rewards hawks. Cable news rewards hawks. Party bosses reward hawks. Defense contractors reward hawks. But Arkansas families are left with the bill.
We already spend roughly a trillion dollars a year on national defense, and somehow Washington still says we are short on munitions and need even more. Now they are talking about a $1.5 trillion defense budget while our national debt spirals, our health care system remains broken, and working families keep getting squeezed.
Foreign armies are not what is bankrupting America.
Debt is. Bad priorities are. Endless war is. A health care system that costs too much and delivers too little is. Politicians who would rather drop bombs than solve problems are.
#Arkansas needs a senator who will defend America without bankrupting America.
Strong defense. Serious diplomacy. No needless wars.
