Equipment modernization and training should be a top priority for all law enforcement agencies. It can increase the department's reliability, decrease its liability, and lessen safety concerns that older equipment and methods present. To be effective in our role of protecting and serving, our Deputies need the most advanced equipment, the newest technologies, and the best training available. As Sheriff, I will work to ensure that our staff has the resources to better serve our community’s needs. The bottom line is that we have a huge responsibility to modernize alongside our local partners and communities. Implementing the latest technology and training will lead to quicker, more efficient responses, and better community relations. These efforts could also establish Bryan County as a leader in the use of new technology, allowing us to engage in joint training on the state and federal levels. To augment taxpayer funding and help offset costs for these programs, our office will seek grants, coop agreements, and private foundation support to make this happen. Having conversations about the current level of equipment, training availability, and ways to maximize reliability should be a common occurrence among our staff and the citizens of Bryan County.
