I had a great time on the Pro America Report with Ed Martin Live from Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. We talked about the importance of fiscal responsibility in government – both Republicans and Democrats have contributed to our spending problem, but it’s clear that conservatives are the only ones working to fix it. As the Chairman of the Republican Study Committee’s Budget and Spending Task Force, I’ve been working with a group of strong fiscal conservatives to draft a budget that confronts our spending problem head-on with mandatory 1% cuts across the federal government. Our budget will balance in less than 10 years – an absolute necessity. Talking about budgets and deficits isn’t all that popular. It’s not a flashy issue, but it’s the most important thing we can do for our children and future generations of Americans. In about 15 years, almost all of the federal budget will be taken by bills on autopilot, funds that automatically renew. We need to start finding cuts, eliminating waste, and getting rid of the excess spending on obsolete line items. If we don’t act now, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be crushed underneath the burden of our debts.
