Donald Trump has broken the most basic promise of the American experiment. No one person is meant to hold unchecked power. America cannot function if Congress and Senators like Roger Marshall act as rubber stamps for whatever a president decides.
Our strength at home and abroad rests on the rule of law. The Founding Fathers learned from history that concentrated power leads to reckless wars, ruined economies, and suffering citizens. That is why the Constitution requires Congress to authorize acts of war and major foreign interventions.
Yet Americans watched as an unchecked president announced plans to run Venezuela without congressional approval. He rejected legitimate opposition leaders, kept elements of Maduro’s corrupt regime in place, and openly prioritized United States oil interests. None of this makes sense because it is not lawful, strategic, or moral.
Kansas then watched Senator Roger Marshall excuse it all. He claimed it was about drugs, said it required no oversight, and raised no constitutional concerns. That is a complete failure of his duty as a United States Senator.
To be clear, Nicolás Maduro is a corrupt dictator who has failed the Venezuelan people. The right path is working with international partners to restore democracy, not imposing puppet leadership and pursuing an oil grab that violates United States and international law.
This reckless approach will not create peace or security. We have seen this before. Exaggerated threats, false claims, and unqualified decision makers always lead to real human consequences. It never ends well for Americans or for the people caught in the middle.
Kansas deserves better. We need leaders who will stand up to presidents of either party and put the Constitution before ego and power. In November 2026, Kansans will elect Christy Davis, a serious and steady leader who will act as a real check on abuse of power and put our country first.
